Blues & Cards Align For One Nation Event At Kiener Plaza Ice Rink

(ST. LOUIS, MO) Continuing a working relationship that was established in 2015, the St. Louis Cardinals and the St. Louis Blues teamed up for a special One Nation Night that was held at Winterfest at the Arch Thursday night.

At the Kiener Plaza event, a special puck drop was represented by both franchises’ front offices and appearances from Blues’ left winger Magnus Paajarvi, former Cardinals’ hurler Danny Cox and mascots Fredbird and Louie were featured.

Thursday’s festivities advanced the Winterfest at the Arch series that is presented by the Gateway Arch Park Foundation where the main attraction is the 40’ x 80’ ice rink that is positioned within close range of the historical Old Courthouse and the iconic monument.

“What’s more St. Louis than the Cardinals, the Blues, the Arch, Kiener Plaza and an ice rink?” said Gateway Arch Park Foundation’s Ryan McClure.

The Cardinals and Blues began their mutual partnership with the first-ever “Blues Night” that the former hosted for the skaters at Busch Stadium in September 2015.

“The Cardinals have been great to us and the two organizations have gotten a lot closer,” said Blues’ Chairman and Governor Tom Stillman. “We have similar outlooks of what our roles should be in the community. It’s important to both of us as we both have similar values.”

The Note’s presence returns at Winterfest Saturday with a big-screen watch party for the Blues vs. Minnesota 5 p.m. road game while Fox Sports Midwest presents live “cut-ins” at the rink during game coverage. The evening also finds the locals hosting a toy drive.

The ice rink is open to the public Thursdays through Sundays from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m and numerous special events are planned from now until its January 1, 2018 conclusion.

“There’s so much to experience here that is new or different for folks,” said McClure. “If you haven’t been down to Kiener Plaza for awhile, please come down and check it out because your park is so much different and better connected to downtown.”
