Saint Louis freshman Olivit Petit is one of 26 players called up by head coach Jitka Klimkova for a U.S. Under-20 Women’s National Team training camp being held Nov. 16-23 in Sunrise, Florida.
This is Petit’s third USWNT training call-up. She participated in a U-19 camp last spring and a U-18 camp in September 2016.
This month’s camp is the first of three events for the U-20 WNT this fall/winter before the 2018 CONCACAF Women’s U-20 Championship is contested in Trinidad & Tobago Jan. 18-28. The tournament will send three teams to the 2018 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in France.
The USA was drawn into Group B at the qualifying tournament. The Americans will open against Nicaragua Jan. 19, play the first-place finisher from the upcoming Caribbean pre-qualifying tournament Jan. 21, and finish group play against Mexico Jan. 23.
Petit enjoyed an outstanding first season with the Billikens, earning Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie of the Year accolades and a spot on the All-Conference first team. She led SLU with eight goals and 20 points, tying for fourth place on the Billikens’ all-time season lists for freshmen in both categories. Petit was fifth in points per game (1.00) and eighth in goals per game (0.40) in the A-10.
Petit tallied game-winning goals vs. Vanderbilt and Saint Joseph’s, and she recorded four of her eight goals and three of her four assists vs. conference opponents. She garnered an A-10 Offensive Player of the Week award and twice picked up A-10 Rookie of the Week accolades.
