Redbirds Capture 5-4 Win in 13 Innings

by Michael Schroeder

MEMPHIS, Tennessee – The first-place Memphis Redbirds picked up their 11th-straight win at AutoZone Park and seventh-straight overall in thrilling fashion, with a 5-4 walk-off win in the bottom of the 13th over the Salt Lake Bees (Angels) Wednesday night at AutoZone Park.

The Redbirds have now won 22 of their last 26 games overall, and their 68-35 record is the best in all of Triple-A Baseball. Also with the win, the Redbirds clinched their 23rd-straight series win or tie. Memphis has not lost a series since losing three of four games at Colorado Springs from April 18-21.

Memphis is now 19-4 in the month of July and is two wins shy of eclipsing 20-9 in 2014 for the best July in franchise history and three wins shy of bettering a 21-9 Sept. of 1998 for the single best month in franchise history.

In the bottom of the 13th, Adolis Garcia led off with a ground ball up the middle, and he used his alertness and speed to turn a single into a double. Patrick Wisdom followed with a double to deep center field to drive home Garcia and give the Redbirds the win.

Wisdom homered in the fourth inning, his 23rd of the season. Garcia and Breyvic Valera also had two hits for the Redbirds, and each scored a pair of runs.

Jack Flaherty gave up one run on four hits in 5.0 innings, striking out three and walking three, and he and Arturo Reyes helped the Redbirds keep a 4-1 lead into the top of the eighth. Salt Lake plated three runs off Josh Zeid to tie the game at 4, which is what the score remained until the 13th.

Sam Tuivailala and Josh Lucas tossed the final 4.0 innings in relief and gave up just two hits.

Memphis and Salt Lake are back in action tomorrow night at 7:05.
