MEMPHIS, Tennessee – The first-place Memphis Redbirds banged out 14 hits for the second-straight game and took down the Las Vegas 51s (Mets) in the series opener Friday night at AutoZone Park.
The Redbirds improved their record to 63-35 on the season, tying a season high-water mark at 28 games over .500. Memphis has won 17 of its last 21 games.
Jack Flaherty was stellar on the mound in his eighth Triple-A start, striking out nine without a walk in 6.1 innings. He scattered four hits, all singles, after retiring the first 11 hitters of the game. Miguel Socolovich and Mike Mayers threw 2.2 scoreless innings of relief to finish the game.
Harrison Bader and Nick Martini each had three hits for the Redbirds, and Martini drove in a season-high four runs. Aledmys Diaz was 2-for-4, and Adolis Garcia scored two runs for the Redbirds.
The shutout was Memphis’ third of the season and first since a 1-0 win against Colorado Springs on June 16.
The Redbirds played their ninth-straight errorless game and have now gone 86.0-straight innings without a miscue.
Memphis’ eight-game homestand with Las Vegas (Mets) and Salt Lake (Angels) continues tomorrow through Friday the 28th.
