MEMPHIS, Tennessee – Mike Mayers tied a career high with 10 strikeouts, and every starter had at least one hit in a 6-1 Memphis Redbirds (34-22) win over the Omaha Storm Chasers (Royals) Saturday night at AutoZone Park.

Mayers allowed one run on five hits in 7.0 innings, and he walked only one to go along with the 10 strikeouts. He became the first Redbird with 10 or more strikeouts in a game since Deck McGuire had 11 at Oklahoma City on Aug. 29, 2016. Ryan Sherriff and Sam Tuivailala slammed the door with 2.0 perfect innings of relief requiring just 13 pitches, 12 of which were strikes.

Nick Martini and Harrison Bader had three-hit games to pace the Memphis offense, and Todd Cunningham was on base five times with a home run, a single, two walks, and a fielder’s choice. He scored three of the Redbirds’ six runs on the night.

Rangel Ravelo extended his hitting streak to 15 games, becoming the first Redbird with a hitting streak of 15-plus games since Oscar Tavares hit in 16-straight from April 13-May 2, 2014.

In their last 16 at-bats, the Redbird offense has had 28 hits and scored 18 runs after scoring two runs on 15 hits in the two games prior.

The game was delayed 90 minutes at the outset due to rain.

The Redbirds and the Storm Chasers finish their series tomorrow at 2:05 p.m, which also concludes Memphis’ eight-game homestand. Memphis is playing a series of 15-of-19 games at AutoZone Park, except for four games at New Orleans MondayThursday.
