Since 2008, Ring of Honor Wrestling (ROH) has presented its high-flying, hard-hitting style of mat action with perennial stops at the Gateway Center in Collinsville, IL.
This Sunday at 7 p.m., the internationally-touring brand presents “Gateway to Gold,” where the main event features a ROH World Championship Match pitting the current kingpin, the “Almighty” Christopher Daniels, defending his strap against the winner of a nine-man “Gateway to Gold Gauntlet.”
The frenetic “Gauntlet” contains a series of one-on-one matches. Initially, a pair of wrestlers will compete and with every decision, the ensuing winner faces a new challenger in an order that was drawn earlier in the evening. The eventual survivor faces Daniels in a ROH World Championship battle that concludes the evening.
What makes the “Gauntlet” intriguing is that all the entrants have never held a ROH championship before. The nine entrants are as follows: Dalton Castle, Jake Crist, Cheeseburger, Jay White, Punishment Martinez, Will Ferrara, Kenny King, Sho, Yo and Jonathan Gresham.
There are simultaneously friends and foes contained in the line-up and whoever claims the duke will certainly have their hands full with the ROH champ but will utilize the euphoric rush of prior success that night in the guidance of initial gold.
Also on Sunday’s packed ROH card in Collinsville:
– A ROH Tag Team Championship match pitting current belt holders The Young Bucks (Mark & Nick Jackson) vs. The Kingdom (Matt Taven & Vinnie Marseglia).
– A tag match featuring two-thirds of the ROH Six-Man Tag Team Champions, Bully Ray and Mark Briscoe vs. “Pro Wrestling’s Last Real Man” Silas Young and Beer City Bruiser
– Former ROH World Champion Jay Lethal vs. former ROH Tag Team Champion Bobby Fish
– A heavyweight brawl featuring former ROH World Champion Jay Briscoe vs. 350-pounder Shane Taylor
– ROH’s newest signee Flip Gordon vs. the “Heavy Metal Rebel” Frankie Kazarian
– A tag match with The Rebellion (Caprice Coleman & Rhett Titus) vs. Coast 2 Coast (Shaheem Ali & LSG)
Per custom to their events held at the Gateway Center the past nine years, ROH tickets will become coveted ducats prior to bell time. One can secure a purchase by going to this link.
