The Memphis Redbirds scored 11 of their 13 runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings en route to a 13-3 win over the Sacramento River Cats (Giants)Friday night in Sacramento, Calif.
The Redbirds (30-19) had 14 hits, three of which were home runs, drew five walks, and were hit by four pitches in the game. The pitching staff struck out 10 River Cats (18-29) on the night.
Harrison Bader, Paul DeJong, and Carson Kelly all homered for Memphis and combined to go 8-for-15 with nine runs scored and five RBI in the game. Bader’s final line read 3-for-4 with four runs, Kelly was 3-for-5 with three runs, and DeJong ended 2-for-6 with two runs.
Seven Memphis starters had a hit in the contest, and six, plus a pinch-hitter, drove in a run. Nick Martini plated three runs on the night, while Chad Huffman and Todd Cunningham were both hit by two pitches.
Josh Zeid struck out a season-high seven in 4.0 innings and gave up two runs, both of which came in the first inning, and five hits. Trey Nielsen followed with 3.0 innings of one-run work to get the win, and Ryan Sherriff pitched 2.0 perfect innings to finish the win.
The Redbirds split the series with the River Cats and their west coast road trip to Fresno and Sacramento.
Memphis returns to AutoZone Park to play 15 of the next 19 games, starting tomorrow at 6:35 p.m.
