Welcome to the second part of the Wrestlemania 33 preview series!
This time, we cover the WWE Cruiserweight Championship match, which is between current champion Neville and Austin Aries. It was back during the brand extension that the cruiserweight division, which was once prominent in WWE, was resurrected and now they have their own television show, 205Live, which airs after Smackdown LIVE! every Tuesday on the WWE Network.
As for Neville, after a long injury hiatus, he made his return in dominating fashion, attacking the other cruiserweights, and turning heel in the process. Ever since defeating Rich Swann for the title, he proclaims himself “King of the Cruiserweights”.
But there’s one wrestler who defiantly disagrees, and that’s Aries.
The former TNA star arrived at WWE NXT and immediately made an impact. Once he made his main roster debut, it was as a commentator announcing the cruiserweight matches on RAW. Eventually, he and Neville engaged in a feud over the title.
This match has the potential to be a sleeper contest for those who want to see two highly talented athletes going at it for one of the more underrated titles on the card. And if you are one of those fans, you will have to make sure to tune into the pre-show, because it has been officially announced by WWE that the WWE Cruiserweight Title match will be taking place on the pre-show, one of three matches thus far that have been announced to be there.
Don’t let it’s low placement on the card fool you, however. Both of these wrestlers are in the prime of their careers, and bring a lot to the table in WWE. This will be the first Wrestlemania match for both of them, and expect them to make the most of it come this Sunday in Orlando.
