Wrestlemania 33 is just a few days away (this Sunday on PPV and the WWE Network)!
Every year, I delve into the annual Wrestlemania event by previewing each match over the course of the week. Of course, there’s a hell of a lot of matches to cover, so expect multiple matches to be previewed per day on some occasions.
Let’s kick things off by previewing the RAW Tag Team Championship match, which will feature Cesaro & Sheamus vs. Enzo Amore and Big Cass vs. Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson (the current champions).
The history of Gallows and Anderson as a team dates back to when they were in New Japan Pro Wrestling in 2013, where they first became a team. Since then, they have become one of the best (and most dominant) tag teams in all of professional wrestling. Arriving to the world of WWE in 2016, they continued their domination against teams such as the Shining Stars and the Dudley Boyz. Throughout 2016, they primarily dealt with The New Day, who are the new record-holders for the longest-reigning Tag Team champions in WWE history. That record ended, however, at this year’s Royal Rumble, when Gallows and Anderson defeated them to win their first title since joining World Wrestling Entertainment.
This title match features three great, young teams. Cesaro and Sheamus had spent the past year in one of the top WWE feuds, but former general manager Mick Foley teamed them up (in a move no one thought would work) and as time passed, so did their heat with each other. Together, they’re one of the most formidable units who use their combined strength and agility to throw their opponents off-balance.
Last week on RAW, Enzo and Cass as well as Gallows and Anderson faced off against Cesaro and Sheamus in a 4-on-2 handicap match by orders of commissioner Stephanie McMahon, who stated if Cesaro and Sheamus lost, they’d be OUT of Wrestlemania. But the two won and still are in this match.
It remains to be seen if the triple threat tag team match makes much of an impact on the overall scope, but with three talented teams in the same match, it definitely has the ability to be a sleeper match on a stacked Wrestlemania card.
