THE BASICS

Mackenzie Peter set a Saint Louis single-game record with three home runs Sunday afternoon to lift the Billikens to a 14-5 victory over Austin Peay on the final day of Kennesaw State’s Phyllis Rafter Memorial Tournament.

•The teams also squared off Sunday morning, with Austin Peay claiming a 5-4 win.

•SLU finished the tournament with a 3-2 record, while Austin Peay went 3-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 1

•Austin Peay struck first with two runs in the bottom of the second inning.

•Saint Louis cut the lead in half in the third on an RBI groundout by Emma Buckles.

•The Billikens plated three runs in the fifth to take a 4-2 lead. Allie Macfarlane rapped a two-run single, and Alyssa Tarquinio’s infield single drove in the third run.

•However, Austin Peay answered with three runs of its own in the bottom of the inning.

•After the first two batters were retired in the seventh, SLU put the tying and go-ahead runs on base but was unable to score.

BILLIKEN NOTABLES – GAME 1

Alex Nickel had two hits, including a triple.

•Macfarlane, Tarquinio and Peter all singled twice.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 2

•Peter slammed her first home run in the bottom of the first, a two-run shot that gave Saint Louis a 2-0 lead.

•In a five-run second inning, Nickel delivered a two-run single, Buckles doubled in a run and Peter followed with another two-run blast to make it 7-0.

•The Billikens put the game away by scoring seven runs in the third. Mackenzie Lawson led off the inning with her first collegiate home run, followed by Nickel’s RBI double and an RBI single by Buckles. Peter’s record-breaking homer was a two-run round-tripper, and Tarquinio completed the scoring with a two-run bomb of her own.

•Austin Peay scored twice in the fourth and three times in the fifth, but it wasn’t enough to keep the game from ending after five innings due to the eight-run rule.

BILLIKEN NOTABLES – GAME 2

•Peter’s six RBIs are a career high.

•The Billikens’ five home runs tied a school record.

•Peter, Nickel and Tarquinio each went 3-for-3. Tarquinio added a double to her home run.

•Buckles was 2-for-3.

•A double by Kaylyn Breitbach and Macfarlane’s single rounded out SLU’s 14-hit attack.

Kallen Loveless notched her first collegiate win in the circle. Loveless allowed three earned runs and six hits and did not walk a batter.

UP NEXT

•The Billikens travel to Tennessee to compete in Chattanooga’s Frost Classic Feb. 24-26. SLU will face UT Martin, Western Michigan, Fairleigh Dickinson, Northwestern State and Chattanooga.
