As the defending national champion of the WFA’s Tier II complexion, the locals know that they will be targeted by numerous tackle football franchises and their respective play will have to be spot-on in order to hoist back-to-back trophies later this summer.

It’s a challenge that the SLAM, founded in 2003, will gladly accept.

On Monday, the team revealed its eight-game regular season that contained a quartet of Saturday night home games that will be played at a newfound local venue, St. Mary’s High School, located on South Grand in St. Louis.

The 2017 docket features both familiar foes and newfound entries in the WFA that already have years of tackle football under their collective belts.

A season-opening road contest against Indianapolis Crash on April 1 is followed by the SLAM’s home opener one week later against WFA newcomer Madison Blaze, a tenured team that competed the last four seasons within the Independent Women’s Football League (IWFL).

An April 22 road clash with cross-state rival Kansas City Titans follows and then the SLAM hosts three straight at St. Mary’s High School beginning May 6. WFA newbie Nebraska Stampede, another IWFL entrant, and rematches with Kansas City and Indianapolis complete the three consecutive Saturday set.

A pair of road contests finishes the SLAM’s regular season.  A Memorial Day Weekend game against the Minnesota Vixens, yet another WFA addition from the IWFL, is followed by a regular season-ending road trip against the Chicago Force, a perennial WFA Tier I post-season powerhouse.

The SLAM have been busy the last couple of months with both early open tryouts and recent practices that have been putting into motion the template for a potential repeat of last year’s championship output.

No doubt, the orange and black attack are primed for another strong season.
