Saint Louis senior outside hitter Danielle Rygelski has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference volleyball Player of the Week, the league announced today. She earned the honor for the sixth time this season, the most weekly honors by a Billiken in school history. Her six awards also match an A-10 record for accolades in a season. In her career, Rygelski has earned nine Player of the Week awards, most ever by a Billiken.
Last week, Rygelski led the SLU attack with 45 kills (5.62 per set) and 10 aces (1.25 per set) in two matches. She turned in 14 kills and three aces with a .321 attack percentage in a sweep of La Salle on Friday. Rygelski then had 31 kills and seven aces against Duquesne on Sunday. It was her third 30+ kill match of the season, second most in the NCAA. Rygelski’s seven aces against Duquesne was the third-highest single-match total in SLU history and the most in the A-10 this season. The last time a Billiken recorded seven aces was 2004 (Sutton Lasater).
Rygelski also set a SLU record for most career kills (1,865) by a Billiken in the rally-scoring era, surpassing Colleen Hunter (1,834). She also notched her 1,000th career dig on Friday against La Salle. Rygelski is the 17th Billiken to record 1,000 digs and the sixth to record 1,000 career kills and 1,000 career digs.
