The St. Louisan, alongside his flat-track brethren, claimed the trophy at the MRDA’s international championships, “LoneStar Showdown,” held in North Richland Hills, Texas and, in the process, was awarded “Most Valuable Jammer” as selected by the governing body’s nomination committee.

Complimented by Porter’s performance, the GateKeepers claimed three straight victories to win its second straight MRDA title that was captured Sunday night.

In rotations at his prime position during a trio of competitive tournament contests, Porter notched lead jammer status close to 60 percent (16-27) while accumulating 137 total points scored.

This included a 65-point performance during the GateKeepers’ Saturday quarterfinal win against Magic City Misfits (Orlando, FL), where he netted a 22-point jam as well as 15 and 13-point strikes.

Most impressively during the weekend, Porter only committed a solo penalty during the grinding three-game set.

One of the founding members of the St. Louis franchise, who finished the back-to-back championship season 12-0, quickly acknowledged Porter’s post-season achievement.

“Corey has been the backbone of our jammer rotation for years,” said co-captain Magnum P.I.M.P. “His consistency is a huge reason that the GateKeepers were undefeated in 2016. Sportsmanship is very important to Corey and he is a fun teammate. It was great to see him recognized on our biggest stage.”

Porter, who began skating with the GateKeepers in 2009, was a member of the Team Men’s USA squad that won the 2014 Men’s Roller Derby World Cup in Birmingham, England.

The jammer, along with the rest of the GateKeepers, now prepares for the launch of its three-team local campaign that begins Saturday, December 10 at Midwest Sport Hockey at Ballwin’s Queeny Park. Porter is a lynchpin for the Raiders of Forest Park, the defending GateKeepers’ “Turf Wars” local kingpin.
