Saint Louis outside hitter Danielle Rygelski and libero Mackenzie Long have been named the Atlantic 10 Conference volleyball Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively. It is the fourth time Rygelski has earned the honor this year and the second week in a row. It is Long’s second weekly accolade this season.
Rygelski continued to thrive this weekend with 53 kills in two matches (7.57 per set). Against Davidson on Friday, she notched 29 kills in a sweep of the Wildcats, the second-best three-set kill total in the NCAA this season. Rygelski now owns the best, second- and fourth-best three-set kill totals in the NCAA this year. She followed that performance with 24 kills in a four-set win over VCU on Sunday. Rygelski has tallied double-digit kills in all but one match this season.
Long anchored the SLU defense last weekend, recording 29 digs (4.14 per set) in the pair of matches. Long was a stalwart on the back row and had only one reception error in 50 attempts.
The Billikens return to action this weekend with a pair of home matches. Saint Louis hosts Duquesne on Friday at 7 p.m. and La Salle on Sunday at 1 p.m.
