Frontier League Unveils Schedule For 25th Season

The Frontier League has released its schedule for its 25th season, which will again feature 12 clubs playing a 96-game, full-season format.  Opening day for the 2017 season will be on Friday, May 12, with the regular season concluding on Sunday, September 3.

The regular season begins on May 12 with Gateway, Lake Erie, River City, Schaumburg, Southern Illinois, and Windy City hosting games.  The Joliet Slammers and Normal CornBelters stage their home openers on Tuesday, May 16 with the Florence Freedom returning to UC Health Stadium on Wednesday, May 17.  The Evansville Otters will receive their championship rings on Friday, May 19, with the Traverse City Beach Bums and Washington Wild Things also opening at home that day.

The 2017 divisional alignment remains the same as in 2016 with all 12 clubs returning.  The defending champion Otters play in the West Division along with Florence, Gateway, Normal, River City, and Southern Illinois while Joliet, Lake Erie, Schaumburg, Traverse City, Washington, and Windy City compose the East Division.  Clubs play their divisional opponents 12 times each, with six games against each inter-division team.  The two division winners plus two wild card teams, regardless of division, advance to the playoffs.

The 2017 All-Star events will begin on Monday, July 10 and conclude with the All-Star Game on Wednesday, July 12 at Silver Cross Field, home of the Joliet Slammers.

Highlights of the 2017 schedule include a rematch of the 2016 Championship Series beginning on May 30 when the River City Rascals travel to Bosse Field, site of a thrilling game 5 to end last season.  Other special events include a Memorial Day game where Lake Erie hosts Windy City; and Independence Day contests in Gateway, Lake Erie, Joliet, Normal, Schaumburg, and Traverse City.

The 25th anniversary of the first Frontier League games takes place on Friday, June 30, with Evansville, Lake Erie, River City, Southern Illinois, Traverse City, and Washington playing at home.

The regular season concludes on September 3 with Florence, Gateway, Joliet, River City, Traverse City, and Windy City hosting games over Labor Day weekend.

The 2017 playoffs will begin on Tuesday, September 5 with a potential game 5 of the Championship Series scheduled for Monday, September 18.
