He’s not a good guy. He’s not a bad guy.
He’s THE guy.
And now, “that guy” is ranked the number-one wrestler in the world, according to Pro Wrestling Illustrated.
The wrestler we’re talking about? Roman Reigns.
From July 2015-June 2016, Reigns was one of the most popular wrestlers in the world. However, that doesn’t man he was one of the most liked. Over the course of the past year, Reigns’ push to the main-event level has resulted in huge fan backlash that peaked at Wrestlemania 32 when explicit chants were shouted all during the main event between himself and then-WWE Champion Triple H.
Following the release of the list, Reigns talked to PWI-Online about the honor:
“I give a lot of credit to the WWE Universe. I rub people in a weird way, it seems, but the fact is they’re emotional and that’s a connection we have. If I’m on a show, I’m going to tug on those emotion strings one way or another. Whether you love me or you hate me, I dig it. But sometimes it is hard. At the end of the day, I want to go out there and entertain, to have fun, to provide for my family, remain healthy, and do this 52 weeks a year. I’m a human being. I have things going on in my personal life. Sometimes it can be hard. But I always say, I think that’s why God gave me broad shoulders, so I can carry that load.”
Reigns recently competed in a fatal-four-way elimination match for the new WWE Universal Championship, which was won by Kevin Owens. Triple H returned for the first time in months, attacking Reigns and helping Seth Rollins eliminate him, before turning on Rollins and aligning himself with Owens.
Do you believe Reigns deserved to be number one on the list?
