Cardinals Recall Reliever Socolovich; Option Tuivailala

The St. Louis Cardinals announced today that they have recalled right-handed pitcher Miguel Socolovich from Memphis (AAA) and they had optioned right-handed pitcher Sam Tuivailala to Memphis following last night’s game.

Socolovich, 30, is making his second appearance with the Cardinals this season, appearing in two games last month, allowing one run in 3.2 innings pitched while striking out five.

Socolovich has compiled a 2-6 mark with 5 saves and a 3.14 ERA in 45 games (51.1 IP) at Memphis this season, ranking T1st in the Pacific Coast League in Holds (13) and 3rd among PCL relievers with his 1.12 WHIP. Socolovich has struck out 59 and walked just 16 for the Triple-A Redbirds and allowed just two home runs.

In 41 career appearances in the majors, “Soco” is 4-1 with a 3.26 ERA, striking out 44 in 49.2 innings pitched. Socolovich wears uniform number 63.

Tuivailala, who worked the 9th inning in last night’s game, has appeared in eight games with St. Louis this season, striking out seven in 6.0 IP.
