ROUND ROCK, Texas – The Memphis Redbirds 10 hits were not enough to take game three against the Round Rock Express (Triple-A Rangers) Monday night. Memphis was 2-for-10 with runners in scoring position and five players for the Redbirds combined to get all 10 hits in the second loss of the series.
The Cardinals No. 3 prospect, Harrison Bader, went 2-for-4 at the plate and scored twice for the Redbirds. In 24 games with Memphis this season, Bader is hitting .286 and has five doubles.
Efren Navarro, Jose Martinez, David Washington and Breyvic Valera each had a pair of hits for the Redbirds as well. Navarro has a hit in 18 of the 21 games he has played in Memphis and is hitting .351 in those 21 games. Washington has gone 5-for-12 at the dish in the last three games he has played against Round Rock.
Carson Kelly was the only other Redbird besides Martinez to pick up an RBI on the night for Memphis.
Alex Reyes (2-3) picked up his third loss of the season in his 13th start for Memphis. He gave up six hits and four earned runs in 4.1 innings while fanning six and issuing three walks. He threw a total of 99 pitches and 56 were strikes. Reyes’ last win came when he gave up one run on two hits in 5.0 innings at Nashville on June 13.
Kurt Heyer and Corey Littrell combined to give up three hits and one earned run in 3.2 innings.
Memphis and Round Rock will play the series finale tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. (CT). Memphis will be back at AutoZone Park to host the Omaha Storm Chasers (Triple-A Royals) Wednesday through Saturday. The upcoming homestand features College Night on Thursday, and a Redbirds Adult Pullover gate giveaway, a Superhero Cape Theme Ticket and postgame fireworks on Saturday.
