EL PASO, Texas – The Memphis Redbirds (46-50) scored three runs in the top of the first to put themselves ahead of the El Paso Chihuahuas (56-41) early on and they never looked back. The Redbirds had 11 hits tonight and each position player for Memphis had at least one hit in the game.
Charlie Tilson made history tonight, getting his eighth triple of the season to tie Stubby Clapp (2000) and Kolten Wong (2013) for the most in a single season in Redbirds history. Tilson is now hitting .315 in the leadoff spot in the lineup and has now reached base at least once in 26 of the last 29 games he has played in.
Harrison Bader and Dean Anna combined to go 4-for-8 at the plate and had six runs batted in. Hader has now hit safely in 9 of the first 12 games he has played in for the Redbirds. Anna had his first game of the season where both of his hits were doubles.
David Washington had one at-bat tonight and made the most of it, hitting his seventeenth home run of the season for the Redbirds. Washington’s 22 home runs between Memphis and Double-A Springfield lead the Cardinals organization.
Jerome Williams picked up his fifth win as a starter this season. Despite walking four, he gave up just three earned runs and five hits in 7.0 innings of work while fanning three. Ryan Sherriff and Sam Tuivailala combined to throw two complete innings and gave up just two hits and fanned three in relief.
The Redbirds and the Chihuahuas will play the series finale tomorrow before Memphis returns to AutoZone Park for eight games against Iowa and Oklahoma City starting Friday. The upcoming homestand features a Redbirds Stephen Piscotty bobblehead gate giveaway and postgame fireworks on Saturday; a kids lunchbox giveaway on Sunday; and Hunting and Fishing Night that includes a camouflage Redbirds hat with a Theme Ticket purchase, as well as a Replica Cardinals 1926 World Series Ring gate giveaway, on Friday the 29th.
