After finishing its regular season undefeated, the primary travel squad of St. Louis-based Arch Rival Roller Derby now knows its future fate in the upcoming playoffs within the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) as the governing body released its latest set of calculated rankings Friday.
With the reveal, St. Louis (8-0) holds a rank of #8 internationally out of 290 WFTDA-sanctioned leagues. The status results in a second seed for the WFTDA Division 1 playoff round that will be held in Madison, Wisconsin on September 23-25.
The Madison playoff is one of four WFTDA Division 1 tournaments held during the post-season. In the ten-team bracketed weekend, Arch Rival will meet the winner of the quarterfinal play-in game between seventh-seeded No Coast and tenth-seeded Madison on Friday, September 23. The top three leagues that finish at Madison will advance to the WFTDA International Championships that will be held in November at Portland, Oregon.
Arch Rival, locally founded in 2005, competed for the first time at the WFTDA Championships last October. Friday’s designation marks the first time that that league has earned a second seed in post-season play.
