Charlie Lisk to be inducted in the Frontier League Hall of Fame

by Press Release

Former Grizzlie Charlie Lisk will be inducted into the Frontier League Hall of Fame during the 2016 All-Star Game. Lisk, along with four other players, a special contributor and a special moment will be honored Wednesday, July 13th in Florence, Kentucky.

lisk1Lisk first signed with the White Sox out of high school and spent five years in affiliated professional baseball before moving to the Windy City Thunderbolts.

“I was planning on retiring but (General Manager) Steve (Gomric) convinced me to come work out with (Manager) Phil (Warren),” Lisk says. “I talked to my wife and she convinced me to keep playing. After my first three days at Gateway, I knew I wanted to play there as long as I could.”

In 2007 he joined the Grizzlies and became an offensive force, still holding the league record for both career home runs and RBI. For the Grizzlies, Lisk holds 13 records including most triples, home runs, grand slams, RBI, at-bats, hits and runs. Lisk was named the MVP of the league in 2010 and is one of only two players to have ever been named to the All-Star team four times during his career.

“I joke with them that I was mediocre long enough to stay in the league,” Lisk says. “I played with a hell of a lot of good guys there that were talented so the fact that my numbers are still above theirs is very special.”

Lisk says he hopes to share those records one day with his son. After being traded from the Grizzlies in 2011, Lisk retired from professional baseball with the River City Rascals.

“I’m ecstatic for Charlie,” Gomric says. “He was a tremendous player and is deserving of this honor. Can’t wait to see him at the All-Star game and watch him get inducted.”free

Now a registered nurse in the cardiothoracic at St. Luke’s Hospital in St. Louis, Lisk says the teamwork and communication skills he learned during his time in baseball are the same principles that help him succeed today.
“I just want to say thank you to Phil for giving me the opportunity to play for so long, for Rich for running such a top notch organization, for the trainers who kept me healthy for so long, the front office staff and for especially the fans,” Lisk says. “I hope they enjoyed watching me play as much as I enjoyed playing in front of them. I couldn’t have asked for a better way to end my Gateway career than playing in front of 9,000 fans.”
