After a seven period scoring drought, the St. Louis Blues reminded us that they are in the Conference Finals for a reason.
Getting a win in San Jose was huge. Especially since we didn’t deserve to win Game 1… or 2… or 3. The series is now tied, but it feels like we are still down a game.
However, with a six-goal game, the Blues have reassured thousands they have what it takes to survive at least one more round.
It started with Troy Brouwer. A tic-tac-toe play put the Blues on the board 6:14 into the first period. Paul Stastny to Robby Fabbri to Brouwer, who knocked it past Martin Jones.
About four minutes later, Jori Lehtera added to their lead. Robby Fabbri got his own rebound and slid the puck into the crease while Jones was out of it. It hit a Sharks’ defensemen and Lehtera hit it into an empty net.
The second period was Kyle Brodziak’s.
Shorthanded, Jaden Schwartz and Brodziak entered the Shark’s zone on a two-on-one. Schwartz hinted the shot before saucing it to Brodzy, who roofed it to give the Blues a 3-0 lead.
Then Dmitrij Jasken found Brodzy open in front 10:11 into the second. Brodziak one-timed it past Jones, which sent him to the bench for a goalie change.
After Joe Pavelski kicked one in to make it 4-1, the Blues responded. While the Blues were on the power play, Stastny found Alexander Steen on the point. Steen’s shot was deflected by Brouwer, who recorded his second of the night to make it 5-1.
With a Pietrangelo empty net goal, the Blues came out on top with a 6-3 victory. Jake Allen stopped 34 shots. Brodziak and Brouwer grabbed two each.
The Blues are coming back to St. Louis for Game 5, which will be Monday, 7:00 on NBCSN.
