Forget the past, the future is now.
That encapsulates the mindset for the St. Chux Derby Chix as they compete against Demolition City this Saturday night at Matteson Square Garden (3051 Industrial Park Place, St. Peters, MO). First whistle blows at 6 p.m.
Time is of the essence for the Pack in Black, which saw their international rank in the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) fall seven positions to #63 when the governing body released its updated hierarchy Thursday afternoon.
In its current position, St. Chux sits outside of playoff eligibility for fall’s WFTDA Division 2 post-season tournament, earmarked for the leagues ranked #41-#60.
Yet there is still time, for the final entrants will be determined in early July. That gives the St. Charles County-based rollers a pair of months to get back into the playoff mix.
St. Chux (1-5) dropped its three games at the K-Town Shakedown this past weekend in Kalamazoo, Michigan against #62 Brewcity, #68 Grand Raggidy and #74 Killamazoo. Positives taken from the event was that the Pack In Black’s losses against Brewcity and Grand Raggidy were fairly close in differential and the team showed steady improvements as the invitational progressed.
Optimism is present as SCDC faced Saturday’s foe earlier this year. In February, the Pack in Black thumped current #73 Demolition City 345-118 in a non-sanctioned home game.
In the 227-point win, the Pack in Black capitalized on penalties and churned a 112-0 rally that launched the second half. SCDC captain Jedi Knight-N-Gale scored 191 points in the game and was complimented in scoring by teammates Pixie Dust-Ruction, Darth Maully and Sha’Killa. The quartet will all be in the mix Saturday night.
Blocking will be paced by Blue Collar Brawler, 50 Shades of Pink, Zo D. Axe, Zombie F-Bomb, Conner, Big Red, Danisaurus Rex and others.
Evansville, Indiana-based Demolition City (0-6) fell fifteen positions Thursday for its current WFTDA rank of #73. In games against higher-ranked opposition this season, the closest contest that they have had was April’s 230-88 setback to #59 Cincinnati. In their other five losses, the differential averaged 300 points.
On paper, Saturday’s match-up favors St. Chux but given the WFTDA’s mathematical method of calculating rank based upon results and strength of schedule, not only does SCDC have to beat Demolition City outright but also has to win it in convincing fashion if the dream to re-enter the Division 2 post-season is to remain intact.
Tickets for the event, which includes a match-up pitting SCDC’s Helles Belles “B” team against Illinois-based Confluence Crush, are $12 at the door while children 12 and under get in free. Save $2 per ticket online by going to THIS LINK.
