MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Round Rock Express (Triple-A Rangers) (9-6) hit a pair of home runs to shoot past the Memphis Redbirds (7-8) Saturday night in front of a sellout crowd of 10,171 at AutoZone Park in Memphis.
The sellout was the first in the regular season since the renovations to AutoZone Park leading up to the 2015 season.
Round Rock’s Joey Gallo hit a two-run home run in the third inning and Drew Robinson added a solo shot in the sixth to account for the game’s offense. Greg Garcia and Carlos Peguero had a pair of hits apiece for the Redbirds, and Charlie Tilson, Jonathan Rodriguez and Nick Martini had the other Redbird hits in the game.
Peguero has only been kept off base entirely in two of the 11 games he has started this season, and Martini has now reached base in 10 of his last 12 games played.
Deck McGuire took the loss after pitching 5.2 innings and giving up six hits and three earned runs while walking one and striking out five. Ryan Sherriff, Miguel Socolovich and Justin Wright followed McGuire and gave up three hits over 3.1 innings of relief.
Michael Roth earned the win for the Pacific Coast League American Southern Division-leading Express in his first start of the season.
The four-game series between Memphis and Round Rock continues Sunday afternoon at 2:05 (CT) before concluding with a pair of 6:35 p.m. games Monday and Tuesday. Sunday’s game is Prairie Farms Ice Cream Sunday, where kids 12 and under receive a free ice cream treat and can run the bases after the game, and it is also “Bark in the Park” theme day. Fans who purchase a special theme ticket can bring their dog to the game and will also receive a free pet blanket.
