Palm Beach Cardinals lose series to Dunedin Blue Jays

by Jeremy Karp

The Palm Beach Cardinals and Dunedin Blue Jays played in the series finale between the two on Monday at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium. Palm Beach looked to tie the series at 2-2, while Dunedin looked instead to win the series three games to one.

But with their 10-3 victory Monday night, it was the Blue Jays who took the series three games to one.

The big play of the game came off of Jonathan Davis’ three run home run. Dunedin scored first on the evening when David Harris hit a two-out two-RBI-single to right field in the second inning. Meanwhile, Tom Robson shut down the Cardinals offense throughout the night, en route to his first win of the 2016 season.

He struck out four batters over the course of five innings in which he gave up just one run.

Pitching just was not on the side of Palm Beach on the evening. In the bottom of the fifth inning, pitcher Pedro Etchemendia came into the game to relieve Ian McKinney, who got his first loss of the season. Following his entering into the game, Emilio Guerrero hit his first of two doubles he would hit on the night, followed by the Davis homer, which would give Dunedin a 6-1 lead.

In the seventh inning, a pair of base hits by both Richard Urena and Jason Leblebijian  Per the official Blue Jays’ site, Urena, Leblebijian and Davis all collected three base hits on Monday night, helping spark the offense of Dunedin as they slowed down the hot streak that Palm Beach was on prior to entering this road series.

One notable achievement by the pitching of the Cardinals is that, despite allowing two walks to first basemen Ryan McBroom, the 11-game hitting streak for McBroom was finally snapped. Palm Beach now returns home to face the Bradenton Marauders, starting Tuesday night.
