Memphis Drops Game One at Colorado Springs; Game Two Postponed

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Memphis gave up three unanswered runs after scoring in the top of the first and dropped a 3-1, seven-inning decision in game one of a scheduled doubleheader in Colorado Springs Monday night. Game two was postponed due to inclement weather.

Monday’s game two will be made up as part of a double-dip in Colorado Springs on Thursday, June 23. Sunday’s postponed game will be part of a doubleheader of Wednesday, June 22. All four games on those two days will be seven-inning contests.

Nearly 72 hours after last taking the field following two weather postponements over the weekend, Memphis (5-5) jumped out to a 1-0 lead after the top of the first when Charlie Tilson doubled at the end of a 10-pitch at bat and scored on aDean Anna single.

Tilson’s double means Memphis has had at least one extra-base hit in all 10 games this season.

Anna finished the game 2-3 with an RBI. Carlos Peguero and Patrick Wisdom had the Redbirds’ other hits in the game, along with Anna and Tilson.

The Sky Sox (5-5) scored two runs in the third off Deck McGuire, who dropped to 0-1 on the season after working 4.0 innings and allowing three hits and two earned runs. He fanned three and walked one in the game.

John Church allowed the third Colorado Springs run in his inning of relief, and Dean Kiekhefer worked the sixth inning and surrendered a hit.

The top four hitters in the Sky Sox lineup went 4-11 with three RBI and two runs. Hiram Burgos gave up one run and four hits in 5.0 innings. He struck out five and did not walk a batter.

Memphis ventures to Oklahoma City for four games tomorrowFriday, with all contests starting at 7:05 p.m. (CT). The Redbirds return home on Saturday at 6:35 p.m. to host Round Rock to start a four-game set.
