Wrestlemania 32 Preview: Part Seven

by Jeremy Karp

Over the past few years, women’s wrestling within the WWE has been heavily criticized by the media and the fans, regarding not only the talent on the roster, but also the quality (or lack thereof) of the matches.

However, NXT changed all of that.

NXT is the development branch of World Wrestling Entertainment, which was put together by Paul Levesque, better known by audiences as Triple H. And it has ushered in a whole new era of women’s wrestling, not “divas”. In fact, the Wrestling Observer Newsletter ranked a 30-minute Iron-Women’s match between Bayley and Sasha Banks was named as the “Match of the Year” across all of professional wrestling worldwide.

Yes, it’s gotten THAT good.

And on WWE Monday Night Raw, on July 13th, 2015, the “Divas Revolution” was launched. Women’s wrestlers Charlotte Flair (named “Charlotte” for short, and daughter of wrestling legend Ric Flair), Becky Lynch, and Banks debuted, and a brawl ensued between the female wrestlers on the WWE roster.

For the NXT wrestlers, the main goal was to take away Nikki Bella‘s WWE Divas Championship, which finally took place on September 20th, 2015, at WWE Night of Champions. Though as time went on, Charlotte began to become more of a “heel”, especially towards her friends Paige and Lynch.

Paige gradually became phased out of the title picture, and instead, now both Lynch and Banks were in the heat of it, as all three ladies began a battle in order to bring back prosperity to women’s wrestling.

At Wrestlemania 32, these three former friends will face off in a triple-threat match, the only women’s match on the main card (aside from the pre-show divas tag-team match). The talent of these three ladies, and young stars, will be shown in full force in front of 100,000+ people in Dallas, Texas on Sunday.
