It was nearly two years ago that three singles wrestlers came together to form arguably the most popular stable/team in World Wrestling Entertainment right now: The New Day. It began when Kofi Kingston and Big E Langston were tag teaming together, but were in the midst of a long losing streak.
And Xavier Woods then stepped in.
He stated to the other two how they would not get anywhere by “kissing babies and shaking hands”. Suddenly, their fortunes began to change, and eventually named themselves “The New Day”. However, they haven’t always been fan favorites, but in 2015, the New Day defeated Tyson Kidd and Cesaro for the WWE Tag Team Championships.
Whether fan favorites or not, since they formed, they’ve become widely popular due to their flashy dance moves, witty banter, and famous motto: “New… Day rocks.” And due to the “Freebird Rule”, any two of the three wrestlers can compete in defending (or winning) the titles at any time, and all three are recognized as tag team champions.
On Sunday at Wrestlemania, they face off against a stable that surprisingly outnumbers them, and is disliked more than they ever were… the League of Nations.
The League of Nations consist of four wrestlers, all from different countries, and two former world champions: Sheamus, Rusev, Alberto Del Rio, and Wade Barrett. Sheamus and Del Rio are both former top world champions, and Rusev and Barrett both have had their dominate hot streaks as well.
A few months ago, these four superstars began to help out Vince McMahon in dealing with Roman Reigns, attacking him during, and after his matches. But as of late, they’ve begun a feud with the New Day, as the tag team champions now have the fans’ support on their side.
Come this Sunday, this match will have seven talented wrestlers fighting in a three-on-four handicap match, and while it is a non-title match, it’s sure to have implications on the tag team division.
