STLtoday.com has confirmed that SLU will hire former Oklahoma State head coach Travis Ford to be the head coach of its basketball program.
Ford was fired by OSU after an eight-year run in which he posted a record of 155-111 with 5 NCAA tournament appearances in which he only got beyond the first round once in those 5 apperances.
Ford, 46 years old, has previous Atlantic 10 experience when he coached UMASS from 2005 to 2008 where he won the Atlantic 10 championship in 2007. He posted a record of 62-35 before being hired by Oklahoma Sate. Ford also played college hoops for one year at the University of Missouri and transferred to Kentucky.
This hire comes off of a hard chase for Valparaiso head coach, Bryce Drew. Drew and Valpo are currently headed to the NIT tournament finals, which doesn’t allow the Billikens to interview or talk to Drew representatives; however, Drew had previously said that he would not leave Valpo for the SLU job.
Ford is left with a next year roster that consists of 3 seniors, 6 juniors, and 2 sophomores.
