Blues blank Capitals in fourth consecutive shutout

After Brian Elliott registered three straight shutouts, Jake Allen joined-in on the fun. The Blues shocked the Capitals in a 4-0 beatdown.

The Capitals outshot the Blues 10 t0 8 in the first period, but that isn’t important. What is important is that they came back to outshoot them 16 to 13 in the second period—scoring 3 goals.

Kyle Brodziak grabbed the first goal as David Backes’ shot stopped in the crease for an easy tap-in goal. The goal was Brodziak’s fifth of the season.

Next up was Colton Parayko as he simply skated into the Capital’s defensive zone and took a deadly wrist shot by the blue line. The puck snuck in between Phillip Grubauer’s legs and into the net to give the Blues a 2-0 lead.

Kevin Shattenkirk swung behind the Capitals’ net and cycled the puck down to Paul Stastny, who found Jori Lehtera darting toward the net. Lehtera caught the puck and saw Vladimir Tarasenko break loose in front of the net. He hit him with the pass, and Tarasenko bumped in the easiest of his 35 goals this season.

However, the Blues weren’t finished.

Alex Pietrangelo registered his 25th assist of the season as he dished the puck to a goal-hungry Patrik Berglund. Burgled buried his 9th to give the Blues a 4-0 lead in the third.

Brodziak’s goal was enough for the win as Jake Allen stopped all 32 shots he faced. The Blues will host the Avalanche on Tuesday, 7:30 p.m. Let’s go Blues.
