It’s been awhile since Brian Elliott has let up a goal.
Three games to be exact.
Elliott turned aside 15 shots for his third straight shutout as the St. Louis Blues knocked off the Vancouver Canucks for the second time this week 4-0.
Jay Bouwmeester did not suit up due to an upper body injury and is not expected to play in the next game either. Robert Bortuzzo replaced him on the blue line and logged 17:02 of ice time with a plus one rating.
The Blues wasted little time in the first after a turnover in their defensive zone midway through the period. St. Louis turned defense into offense in a three-on-one shorthanded opportunity. Scottie Upshall slid the puck across to Kyle Brodziak who put a shot past Jacob Markstrom going post to post to make it 1-0.
About five minutes later, the Blues added to their lead.
Paul Stastny collected the puck and faked a shot before dropping a no-look pass to Robby Fabbri. Fabbri had time and space as he beat Markstrom to the glove side making it 2-0.
In the second period, Stastny worked the puck to the point where Carl Gunnarsson ripped a slap shot on net with Troy Brouwer in front providing the screen. Markstrom likely didn’t see the shot come in as it put the Blues up 3-0.
After another dominant period, the Blues kept the pressure on in the third period outshooting the Canucks 16-2. Joel Edmunson added his first of the season with just under eight minutes left in regulation to help seal the win.
Next up is a test against the best team in the league, the Washington Capitals. The game is set for Saturday, March 26 at 6 p.m.
