Gunnarsson Signs 3-Year Extension

St. Louis Blues President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today the club has signed defenseman Carl Gunnarsson to a three-year contract extension worth $8.7 million.

Gunnarsson, 29, has dressed in 62 games for the Blues this season, tallying seven points (two goals, five assists), 27 penalty minutes and a +6 rating.

The Orebro, Sweden native was originally acquired by the Blues via trade from Toronto on June 30, 2014. During his tenure with the club, he has appeared in 123 regular season games, accumulating 19 points (four goals, 15 assists), 29 penalty minutes and a +16 rating.

In addition, he dressed in all six 2015 Stanley Cup Playoff games, posting a +1 rating.

The 6-foot-2, 197-pound defenseman is currently in his seventh NHL season overall after being drafted by Toronto in the seventh round (194th overall) of the 2007 Entry Draft.

Across 427 career regular season games between the Blues and Maple Leafs, Gunnarsson has registered 105 points (19 goals, 86 assists), 121 penalty minutes and a +30 rating.

His postseason career has yielded one point in 13 outings.
