New Cardinal Relief Pitcher, Seung-Hwan Oh

by Easton Leonard

On January 11, 2016, the St.Louis Cardinals went out into the Korean market and signed Relief Pitcher, Seung-Hwan Oh. Oh, 33, has played 11 years with KBO/JPCL teams. In his 11 years so far, he has pitched 646.1 Innings and has 357 Saves. In Korea, he is known as “Stone Buddha” or “The Final Boss”. However, he has told reporters that he hopes to have a new nickname in the MLB.

In 2016, I would expect some ups and downs from Oh, because this is his first season in the MLB. He will most likely play a Setup role most games, or even close out a few.

Below is Oh’s complete stats from his 11 years in professional baseball.

I’m trying to get a nickname circulated for Oh based on a couple things he said after being signed. He said he didn’t know much about the Midwest area outside of St. Louis having the Arch & that it was the Gateway to the West from movies he had seen. While Stone Buddha is pretty epic, if he’s looking for a Cardinal Nation nickname I think “The Gatekeeper” would be a solid choice based on his interview & his expected role in the pen! Been trying to get this circulated & I’ll be in Jupiter on March 6 so I’m going to try spreading it there too!!
