The Blues are now on a four game winning-streak. Yeah, four games in-a-row. Never thought I would say that this season. In fact, the last (and only other) four game winning-streak was back in October.
The St. Louis Blues took on the L.A. Kings after winning three consecutive games (Panthers, Lightning, Stars).
Both goalies had several highlight-reel saves, but Brian Elliott was clearly the first star as he stopped 35 shots out of 36. His SV moved to #1 in the league at .934. Also, his goals against average is first in the league at 1.99. He won his fourth straight in his 16th consecutive start.
About 11 minutes into the first period, Robby Fabbri broke the ice. Jori Lehtera found Fabbri heading towards the net on the left side of Jonathan Quick. Fabbri caught the puck, looked up, and put it past the Kings’ tender to give the Blues a 1-0 lead.
Per usual, the opposing team struck back late.
The Kings entered the Blues’ defensive zone as Jeff Carter took Jay Bouwmeester wide. Carter slid the puck to Tyler Toffol, who wacked in his 24th goal of the season to tie the game.
Neither team could grab two points in regulation.
The Blues headed to overtime for the second game in-a-row. This time… Jaden Schwartz was the hero. Schwartz found himself on a breakaway. He got a shot off before a Kings defender could catch up to him. His shot hit the post and ricocheted off the back pad of Quick into the net, sending Blues fans home with a 2-1 OT victory.
Schwartz grabbed his fourth goal in his fourth game back. The Blues have not lost a game in 2016 with him on the ice.
The Blues will take on the Coyotes on Saturday, February 20th (8:00 p.m.).
