The Blues have now won three straight following a 2-1 overtime win against the Dallas Stars.
Kevin Shattenkirk scored in the overtime period to help close the gap between the Blues and Stars.
Following the win, St. Louis now sits at 33-17-9 with 75 points and sit five points behind the Dallas Stars. After gaining a point, the Blues still remain in third place in the Central Division with Chicago sitting in second four points in front.
The first period remained scoreless as both teams only combined for eight shots in the period.
Fresh off the injury list, Jaden Schwartz made his mark.
In the first minute of the second period, Colton Parayko fired a dump-in attempt into the zone, and the puck took a strange bounce of the boards. Kari Lehtonen went back behind the net to play the puck, but it bounced right to the front of the net. Schwartz was there to put the puck in the empty net to make it 1-0.
The Stars outlasted the Blues’ offense including killing off a 5-3 in the second period and a pair of breakaways in the game.
The score remained 1-0 until the Stars responded in the third period. Alex Goligoski fired a slap shot from the point with under seven minutes left in regulation. Brian Elliott made the first stop and Valeri Nichushkin fount Mattias Janmark backdoor for his second goal in as many days.
The score remained knotted at one heading into overtime. With the Blues on the power play, Paul Stastny passed to Shattenkirk who one-time a shot over the shoulder of Lehtonen to seal the win for the Blues.
Next up for St. Louis will be a matchup against the Los Angeles Kings Thursday Feb. 18 at the Scottrade Center.
