Tuesday night the St. Louis Blues shut down one of last season’s best teams.
The Tampa Bay Lightning walk away shutout not because they didn’t play well, but because the Blues played that much better.
Scott Gomez scored his first goal in a Note tonight for the game winner. It came in the form of a tip off the shot of rookie defenseman Colton Parayko. There was absolutely nothing Ben Bishop could do.
After gaining the lead the Blues held pressure but Ben Bishop stayed strong, saving the rest of his shots for the night. Bishop’s efforts proved fruitless as Jake Allen saved all 26 shots he faced.
In the final seconds of the game, Alex Pietrangelo passed to Troy Brouwer who padded the Blues lead to 2-0 off an empty netter. The Bolts have now suffered back-to-back shutouts as the Blues moveĀ to 6-2-1 on the season.
Meanwhile, Colton Parayko continues to exceed expectations as he added another point to his early NHL resume. Parayko now has 6 points (3G, 3A) in 9 games and leads all rookie defensemen in points.
Robby Fabbri returned from injury tonight and seemed to have not skipped a beat. Though he didn’t record any points, his presence was well documented. Fabbri played well on both sides of the puck, creating multiple scoring chances and playing with quite a bit of grit for his size.
Tonight’s victory for the Blues serves as the first game of a 5 game home stand. The Blues will host the struggling Anaheim Ducks on Thursday.
