The Rams will wear their royal blue and yellow gold throwback jerseys this Sunday as they host the division rival San Francisco 49ers at the Edward Jones Dome, and they’ll don the retro look in against an NFC West foe again in Week 13 when they host the Arizona Cardinals onDec. 6.
St. Louis last wore the royal blue and yellow gold jerseys on a permanent basis during the 1999 season, a year that saw the Rams go 13-3 during the regular season before going on to win Super Bowl XXXIV over the Tennessee Titans in one of the most thrilling finishes in Super Bowl history. The win gave the Rams their first Super Bowl Championship.
The Rams began wearing the popular throwbacks in 2009 to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of “The Greatest Show on Turf” team’s championship season and the team has worn them twice annually since.
St. Louis has sported the throwbacks twice against the 49ers, including last season and during a 2012 overtime victory over San Francisco. Since the team changed to their current navy and metallic gold color scheme, they have not worn their throwbacks against Arizona.
