NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A cacophonous performance at the plate by Memphis guided the Redbirds to an 11-2 win over the Nashville Sounds on Sunday evening from First Tennessee Park.

With their victory the Redbirds retain the coveted Tennessee Lottery I-40 Cup for the third consecutive season.

Memphis got the scoring started in the first inning when Tommy Pham delivered an RBI-single to left field, his first of four RBI on the night.

The Redbirds added a pair of runs in the top of the third on a double from Dan Johnson and another single from Pham.

Memphis broke the game wide open in the fifth, a frame that saw the Redbirds cross the plate five times. Xavier Scruggs drove home the inning’s first run on a run scoring fielder’s choice error, followed by a two-run single from Jacob Wilson. Dean Anna finished off the first half of the fifth with a run scoring single of his own.

The runs continued for the Redbirds as designated hitter Cody Stanley led off the seventh inning with his sixth home run of the season. Ed Easley would knock in another run in the inning, scoring Jeremy Hazelbaker on an RBI double. Tommy Pham registered his fourth RBI of the game to finish off the scoring in the seventh for the Redbirds on a double, scoring Easley.

Memphis starter Nick Greenwood notched his 11th win of the season, tied with Round Rock’s Ross Wolf for most in the Pacific Coast League. The southpaw allowed two runs on five hits on Sunday, walking none and striking out three over 5.2 innings of work. Tyler Waldron, Chris Thomas, and Justin Wright combined to shutout the Sounds over the contest’s final 3.1 innings.

After a league-wide off day on Monday, the Redbirds return to action on Tuesday with a four-game set against the Storm Chasers in Omaha. Left-hander Marco Gonzales (0-3, 6.39) will toe the rubber for the Redbirds and will be opposed by Omaha’s J.C. Sulbaran (1-0, 4.76).
