This is part eight of a nine part series previewing each position on the St. Louis Rams in 2015. They will go as follows:
1 – QB
2 – RB/FB
3 – WR/TE
4 – OL
5 – DL
6 – LB
7 – CB
8 – SS/FS
9 – Special Teams
Part Eight – Safety
Current Safeties on the St. Louis Rams roster:
Maurice Alexander
Mark Barron
Christian Bryant
T.J. McDonald
Rodney McLeod
Maurice Alexander – Alexander’s story is pretty interesting, he went from being kicked off of Utah State’s football team to being a janitor at the Edward Jones Dome, to being drafted by the Rams in 2014. He has more experience under his belt after not playing football in 2013 and Alexander could see some playing time in 2015.
Mark Barron – Barron is very talented. The Rams traded for him in October of 2014. He will split some time at safety with McDonald and McLeod.
Christian Bryant – Bryant didn’t play in 2014 because of a broken ankle he suffered at Ohio State in 2013. He spent last season on the practice squad and will compete with Maurice Alexander for reps at safety and a spot on the 53-man roster.
T.J. McDonald – McDonald has been superb since being drafted in 2013. He is only headed into the third year of his career but he plays like a seasoned veteran. McDonald will be the starter over Mark Barron most likely but the two will split some playing time.
Rodney McLeod – McLeod went undrafted in 2012 but worked his way up and started in 2013 and also in 2014. He will likely be the starting free safety for the Rams again in 2015.
