Home Baseball Cardinals Acquire Moss

Cardinals Acquire Moss

by Mark Hostert

The St. Louis Cardinals and the Cleveland Indians came to terms early this morning to deal 1B/OF Brandon Moss to the St. Louis Cardinals for minor league prospect Rob Kaminsky.

Moss was an all-star in 2014 and sent to Cleveland from Oakland during their off-season sale. In 2015 Moss is hitting just .217/.288/.407 with 15 home runs and 50 RBI. Since 2012 Moss has hit 21, 30 and 25 home runs respectively. His current 2015 salary is $6.5MM and is arbitration eligible this off-season. He will most likely earn a figure around that same number.

Moss adds a powerful left-handed bat to the Cardinals lineup and will be able to play first base, along with the outfield as the team waits for more information on Matt Holliday.

While Moss is not considered a rental player, he did come at a cost. Kaminsky was the team’s first round pick in 2013. According to Baseball America he ranked 4th in their farm system. Kaminsky is known for having a great curveball with a fastball that sits around 89-92.
