All square between St Louis FC and OKC Energy

It was a hard fought game, but in the end Saint Louis FC and Oklahoma City Energy cancelled each other out in a 0-0 tie at Worldwide Technology Soccer Park on Saturday evening.

Saint Louis FC started the brighter and had the better of the first half. With 9 shots to OKC 3, however Energy came more into it in the second half with 8 shots themselves. Despite not being able to break the deadlock head coach Dale Schilly was pleased overall. “The draws don’t do us much good,” Schilly said.  “We needed to get a win.  That said, the fact that we put two back-to-back efforts together is very pleasing.  We dictated the pace and possession tonight, and I thought we played really well.”

Oklahoma carried the threat of the leagues leading scorer in Danni Konig. He was left frustrated by the Saint Louis defense, which was playing in it’s second successive shutout for the back four and goalkeeper Alec Kann, “Our center backs played great,” Kann said.  “We had a really good defensive team effort tonight, but we just have to have that killer instinct to take the three points.”

The best chance of the game for Saint Louis fell to Mike Ambersley towards the end of the game as he saw his deflected shot just flash wide of Evan Newtons goal.

Saint Louis FC have 22 points and remain in eighth position in the USL Eastern Conference. Their next game is Sunday  August 2nd on the road to New York Red Bull2.
