What Baseball Means To St. Louis, Thank You Cardinals

Baseball… America’s favorite pastime.

Entrenched into our history as much as anything that has ever shaped our culture throughout the life-span of this country. We own it, make no mistake, it belongs to us. With stories and events that are as beautiful and magical as fairy tales. It’s a game of honor, integrity, and fierce competition, but played by gentleman.

The St. Louis Cardinals have been a front-runner in shaping that history of the game since they were born over a century ago. They are one of the most highly decorated, history making teams the world has ever known. They have built dynasties again, and again, and again.

The memories they have given Baseball alone are enough to admire the team. Just in my lifetime, I have been privileged enough to see Ozzie Smith doing backflips on the field, Willie McGee give pitchers a look that will never be repeated, Mark McGwire shatter bats and records, the rise of Albert Pujols. I’ve seen David Freese take us out of the face of elimination to a World Series Title, and we are all witnessing Yadier Molina make history as one of the greatest catchers and players the game has ever seen.

Now… I don’t know who said this, but I love this quote “Whatever Baseball gave them, in the end, Baseball got more”
I truly believe that, and what’s more, I believe whatever St. Louis gives to the Cardinals, in the end, St. Louis will always get more back from the Cardinals.
I don’t know why I’m writing this. Maybe it’s just what I said it was, a thank you to the greatest team Baseball has ever seen. I think we all know it’s for damn sure justified.

So what is it that makes Baseball in St.Louis just so special??? How did us St. Louisan’s get so lucky? I don’t know… Magic maybe? But it’s no wonder we’re the most hated fans in baseball. It’s because unless you’re from St. Louis you will NEVER understand the relationship that we have with our team.
St. Louis fans are the foundation. The Cardinals organization makes the pillars of success. St. Louis and Busch Stadium together are the roof. Altogether, they build Baseball Heaven. That’s exactly what Baseball means to St. Louis.
