The St. Louis Surge women’s professional basketball franchise aims to pick up its fifth straight win at home this weekend.
St. Louis (5-1) hosts the Missouri Arch Angels Saturday at UMSL’s Mark Twain Center (1 University Boulevard, St. Louis, MO.) Tip off is at 7 p.m.
The Surge netted its fourth straight win in the Women’s Blue Chip Basketball League (WBCBL) last Saturday with an 85-65 victory over the Minnesota Black Ice at UMSL.
Forward Rebecca Harris notched 19 points in the victory, followed by Jaleesa Butler’s 18 and Sam Price’s 17. Brittany Carter, Raven Berry, Cassie Rochel, Leah Cotton and Bianca Beck also posted points in the 20-point duke that pushed the Surge to the top spot of the WBCBL’s Mid-West Division hierarchy.
Saturday’s game is a re-match between the two franchises. The Surge notched a 103-56 victory over the Arch Angels on May 23 and looks for a June push for the top seed in the upcoming WBCBL Mid-West post-season tourney.
The Arch Angels (3-4) are paced offensively by Suzanne Grossnickle’s 13 points per game, followed by Mia Wesley’s 11 points.
Saturday’s contest is promoted by the Surge as “Power Up Pink” night, where the franchise is supporting the fight against cancer. Tickets for the game, sponsored by Siteman Center Center, are $8 for adults while students, both college and high school with ID, are $5. Children five and under get in free as well as youth teams sporting their team’s jerseys.
