After a successful launch of its local campaign last weekend, the St. Louis Surge looks to keep the momentum rolling this Saturday at home and record its fourth straight victory.
The Surge (4-1) entertains the Minnesota Black Ice (2-2) at UMSL’s Mark Twain Building (1 University Blvd.) Tip off is at 7 p.m.
St. Louis collected its third consecutive win last Saturday with an 84-80 home-opening topper against Nebraska. The four-point duke pushed the Surge into sole possession of first place in the Mid-West Division of the Women’s Blue Chip Basketball League (WBCBL.)
The contest was tight throughout and the Surge displayed patience down the stretch by hitting 19-of-22 shots from the free throw line in the fourth quarter.
Rebecca Harris paced St. Louis scoring with 18, followed by Leah Cotton’s 17. Jaleesa Butler, Cassie Rochel, Sam Price, Brittany Carter, Raven Berry, Brianna Puni, and Bianca Beck also notched points in the win.
The locals seek friendly revenge Saturday. Minnesota bested the Surge, 96-93, five weeks ago and seeks its second consecutive win and a jump in the Mid-West Division standings. Gillian Bjerke-Letsche and Kachine Alexandar pace the offense for the Black Ice.
Tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for students (with a high school/college ID) and free for children five and under. Local youth basketball teams that attend wearing their team’s uniform also get in free. Members of the military (with ID) and those wearing a public service uniform can receive a “Hero’s Night” admission for $5.
