Saint Louis baseball completed a three-game sweep of visiting VCU with a 12-9 win over the Rams. Sophomore southpaw Brett Shimanovsky (3-1) gets the win. The Billikens are now 31-16 and 12-6 in Atlantic 10 Conference games.
VCU scored three runs in the top of the first, but Saint Louis responded with a six-run first to take a 6-3 lead to the second.
The Rams continued to score, plating two more in the second. The Billikens answered with a run of their own, holding a 7-5 lead through two.
VCU regained the lead in the top of the fourth with a four-run frame.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Bills took the lead with a three run inning, bringing the score to 10-9.
Saint Louis scored two more insurance runs in the sixth to extend its lead to 12-9.
The Billikens tallied 16 hits in the contest. Josh Bunselmeyer was the top offensive threat, going 4-5 with a double, three runs scored and two RBI. Michael Bozarth continued to excel in his return from injury, going 2-4 with three runs scored and three stolen bases. Bozarth has 17 stolen bases this season.
On the hill, Shimanovsky threw a career-high 5.2 innings, scattering four hits without allowing an earned run. He had two strikeouts and one walk.
The Billikens wrap up the 2015 home slate with a mid-week contest against No. 19 Missouri State. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 5.
