Home Baseball Early Streaks!

Early Streaks!

by Megan Foster

It’s early. We’re only two weeks in to the 2015 season for the Cardinals, but the boys are looking pretty good.

As of yesterday, the Cards are on a four game win streak. Now, I know that’s not a huge number, but when we’re looking at a season that is only 10 games old, it’s looking gosh dern spectacular. This is a stat that is probably familiar to many of you, but something I was surprised by were a couple of the other streaks that I learned about in my little interweb research for this post.

Jhonny Peralta was on quite a hitting streak that ended yesterday. He had hit safely in 9 straight games, bringing his batting average to .325 with 1 home run, 4 doubles and 7 RBIs. That means that he had, until yesterday, gotten a hit in every game since the beginning of the season. I guess we can hope he can just begin another streak tonight.

Matt Holliday is currently on a 10-game hitting streak. He’s up one on Peralta! Holliday has not had a game this season in which he hasn’t gotten at least one hit. This feat has resulted in Matt having a .364 batting average, with one double and 6 RBIs.

Looking at how the rest of the team is doing on offense, Matt Carpenter leads the team in batting average with a whopping .381, with 1 home run and 9 RBIs. Yadi is batting .306 with 7 RBIs and 3 doubles. New addition Jason Heyward is batting .227 with his first home run yesterday and 3 RBIs. Matt Adams is right behind Heyward in batting average at .226 with 1 home run and 4 RBIs.

As we all are aware, offense, although good to have, is not the only thing that wins ball games. With a 7-3 record, the Cardinals’ pitching has looked pretty decent, with a combined ERA of 2.00. Looking at just starters, here’s what we have: Wacha 2-0 with a 1.35 ERA; Lynn 1-1 with a 1.64 ERA; Martinez 1-0 with 2.08 ERA; Wainwright 1-1 with a 2.08 ERA; and Lackey 1-0 with a 2.77 ERA. Rosenthal has 4 saves and sits at a 1.59 ERA, while Siegrist has also enjoyed a save with an ERA of 0.00.

At 7-3, the Cards are sitting on top of the NL Central with a one-game lead over the Cubs. Wainwright takes the mound against the Reds on Sunday night baseball. Let’s hope they can gain a little more lead over those Cubbies.

And…as a side note…I love high sock Sundays!

As always, Go Cards!
