Lynch and Gaul Lead STLFC to First Win

by Matthew Bird

Saint Louis FC chalked up their first win of the USL season Thursday as they easily put away a Tulsa team 2-0 at ONEOK field Tulsa.

It was all STLFC from the beginning as they tried to bounce back from the loss against Louisville City 5 days ago. Playing a 4-4-2 [diamond midfield] the formation was similar to the Louisville game but Richard Dixon came in for Nick Bibbs at right back and Mike Ambersley made way for Jeremie Lynch up front.

With all the early pressure in the game, Saint Louis looked like they were going to go into the break scoreless with the Jamiel Hardware shot hitting the post being the closest chance to breaking the deadlock. However on the 42nd minute it was Lynch who pounced on a loose ball after a Bryan Gaul effort was saved and put Saint Louis up a deserved 1-0 lead.

In the second half it was a similar story however Saint Louis only needed 11 minutes to double their lead as Bryan Gaul turned neatly after a great pass from Richard Dixon and Gaul rifled the ball past Zac Lubin into the Tulsa net.

With time against them, Roughnecks tried to mount something of a fightback as STLFC took their foot off the gas, and had three excellent chances which were saved by Mark Pais who was outstanding in the latter part of the game.

This win puts Saint Louis at one win and one loss for the year. The next game, the home opener on April 11th against Pittsburgh Riverhounds at Soccer Park in Fenton.
