Saint Louis dropped the series finale to Rhode Island 6-9. However, the Billikens still win the series two games to one. Zach Girrens (3-1) was tabbed with the loss. Saint Louis falls to 15-8 overall and 2-1 in Atlantic 10 play.
Rhode Island was the first team to score, plating four in the third inning.
Saint Louis responded in the bottom of the fourth with a solo home run from Colton Frabasilio, his fourth of the year, cutting the deficit to 4-1.
The Rams then scored a run in the fifth, three runs in the sixth and one run in the seventh to take a 9-1 lead to the eighth.
In the bottom of the eighth, SLU started to rally. With one out the top of the order came up. Michael Bozarth hit a single to center and Frabasilio walked to put two runners on. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch to put two runners in scoring position for Mike Vigliarolo. He ripped a double to the wall in left center, scoring two.
Entering the ninth, SLU trailed Rhode Island 9-3. With two outs and runners at second and third, Bozarth lifted a single to left center, scoring a pair and cutting the URI lead to four. Frabasilio drove him in with an RBI double, bringing the score to 9-6. With Frabasilio at second, Vigliarolo ripped a fly ball to deep left field that the URI left fielder tracked down with his back on the wall.
Vigliarolo’s double in the eighth was the 50th double of his career. He is now fifth all-time at Saint Louis in career doubles. Adam Gabris (1994-97) holds the record with 54 career doubles.
Next up for the Billikens is a road game at Southeast Missouri State on March 24. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
