Saint Louis baseball completed its three-game sweep of Northern Colorado with a 5-4 win at the Billiken Sports Center Sunday afternoon. Sophomore Zach Girrens (3-0) earned the win and junior Thompson Geron (1) got the save.
The Billikens rise to 12-7 with the win.
Saint Louis opened the scoring in a big way with a four-run second inning. Michael Bozarth hit an RBI single up the middle for SLU’s first run of the game. Colton Frabasilio continued to drive the Billiken offense with a sacrifice fly down the right field line for the second run. Mike Vigliarolo ripped a double to deep center field, scoring two more and giving SLU an early 4-0 lead.
Jake Henson added an insurance run in the fifth with a solo home run. It was his fourth home run of the season and his third in five days.
The Bears roared back in the late innings, scoring twice in the sixth, once in the seventh and once in the ninth. Geron entered the game with runners at first and second with one out and a one-run lead. He enticed a pop up to shortstop before getting a ground out to second to end the game and earn his first save as a Billiken.
Vigliarolo was strong at the plate going 2-3 with a pair of doubles and two RBIs.
Next up for SLU is a midweek game against UT-Martin on March 18 at the Billiken Sports Center. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
