Saint Louis sophomore forward Reggie Agbeko notched his first-career double-double, but the Richmond Spiders put four players in double-figures and knocked off the Billikens 67-51 Saturday night in Atlantic 10 Conference men’s basketball action at the Robins Center.
The Billikens are the No. 14 seed in next week’s A-10 Championship at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. Their first game is Wednesday against No. 11 seed Duquesne at 8 p.m. (CT). The game will be televised on Fox Sports Midwest.
SLU concludes the regular season 11-20 overall and 3-15 in the A-10. Richmond, which secured a top-four seed in next week’s A-10 Championship with the win, improve to 19-12 overall and 12-6 in A-10 play.
Agbeko posted career-highs of 13 points and 11 rebounds for the double-double. He shot 6-of-9 from the floor and played a career-high 34 minutes.
Ash Yacoubou scored 10 points and grabbed six rebounds. Mike Crawford exceeded his career rebounding high for the second straight game with eight boards. He also chipped in with five points. Austin McBroom hit a pair of treys en route to eight points.
A McBroom triple tied the game 12-12 early on, and a 7-0 run that included two buckets from Yacoubou and a Marcus Bartley trey brought SLU to within three with six minutes left in the first half. But Richmond responded with an 8-0 to build a 10-point cushion. The Spiders shot 56 percent in the first half and led 36-27 at the break.
An Agbeko basket made it a seven-point Billiken deficit early in the second half. However, Richmond scored the next eight points and built a double-digit advantage it would not relinquish.
